Bank Note Signed by General Griffin

A partial bank note, signed by the founder of Griffin, Georgia and members of the Monroe Rail Road. General Lewis Lawrence Griffin named the City of Griffin after himself and Hill and Solomon Streets after Peter Solomon and John G. Hill, who served as officers on the Rail Road Board of Directors.

The note was issued in Forsyth, Monroe County, GA and dated June 5, 1838. The Monroe Rail Road reached Forsyth from Macon in that year. The bearer of this "note" was entitled to "... ride Twelve miles on the Rail Road". The note was redeemable in payment of debts to the Rail Road or in current Bank Notes or Specie.

Despite its fair and partial condition, this piece is of great historical importance.
